The trail is easy and mostly paved. There are a lot of shaded areas, which is relatively hard to find in the general area. It’s known for its whimsical decorative elements.

However, there are a number of unique challenges on this trail. The installations themselves are very tempting for young hands to touch—most are not protected in any way. But they are old, some are fragile, and more than a few could house yellow jackets (they said they spray frequently. We didn’t see any). Many of the write-ups I read before I went mentioned in passing that there’s some religious influences in the installations. It’s much more than that—it’s very overtly Christian. The end of the trail features a small picnic area by the river, but parents should be aware that the banks aren’t safe.

Getting There

When you get to a gas station called Dan’s Ferry Service, look for a driveway along the side of the parking lot. It goes downhill to the Ferry Museum and the trailhead.
