About This Trail

[Total: 0    Average: 0/5]

Paleontology, local history, and city views? Dinosaur Hill is the spot to be! This trail goes to the top of the hill and back down, with views of the nearby cities and valley, cliffs in the distance, and the Colorado River. There are signs along the trail with local history factoids, and several shade shelters with benches. On the east side of the hill, you can see the mine shaft where an Apatosaurus was excavated.

Recommended route is clockwise from the parking lot, as the up hill portion is relatively wide and smooth to walk up to the top. Past the uppermost viewpoint, the trail is rocky and steep, which is when you may want to carry toddlers or navigate slowly to complete the loop, or else go back the way you came.

There is no shade other than the shelters, so early or late in the day would be best during the summer heat.

My name is Nicole Dominick, and I’ve been hiking with Hike it Baby since May 2016 with my daughter. She is now 4.5 years old and has hiked over 400 miles! She has been carried for most of those miles, but we enjoy every journey. We were both born and raised in Southern CA but now live in Colorado Springs, CO.
