Donald County Park is a 775-acre park located in the Town of Springdale, southeast of Mt. Horeb off Highway 92, just west of Mt. Vernon. The park contains oak woods, intriguing rock outcroppings with scenic vistas and springs. The park is also known for its hiking & equestrian trails and trout streams; Deer Creek and Frye Feeder, and Mt. Vernon Creek. Donald Rock Trail is across the highway from the main part of Donald County Park. Starting at the Pop’s Knoll parking lot, take the dirt road back toward the highway, and take the trail to the right just before you reach the highway. You’ll cross a small bridge over a creek – good spot for kiddos to check out the creek from the bridge. From there you’ll cross over the county highway, please use caution when crossing the road with your family. Once across follow the trail back through the prairie grasses and there will be another small bridge to cross over the creek. The trail will head left, and you’ll need to cross the dirt road to access the rest of the trail. From there the trail heads up on an incline, but it is wide and grassy most of the way. Please note this is a multiuse trail, and you may have some equine company.

To take the 0.8 mile loop at marker 26 head to your right. There is a scenic view point along the trail, but if the vegetation is full you may not have much of a view. Once you get to marker 28, head left, and make another left at marker 27 to head back down the way you started. Once back down to the road, you’ll head back the way you came crossing the bridge and the highway again to get back to the road to the parking lot.

There is a toilet and picnic area at the Pop’s Knoll parking lot.
