About This Trail

A glacial drumlin rising above a broad ribbon of marsh forms the backbone of this southeast Madison Park.  On-going projects are oak savanna and wetland restorations.  Nearby Glendale School and Aldo Leopold Nature Center use the park extensively for environmental education.

From the parking lot, you’ll head back into the conservancy between two ponds in wet/marshland. This is often a good spot to see different types of waterfowl or hear frogs in warmer months. This section is about .25 miles long and will take you back into the prairie and wooded sections of the conservancy. Once you reach the the split in the trail, head to the right to stay on the loop, or if you choose to head left there are some trails that will lead to nearby Also Leopold Nature Center or Glenwood School. After heading right on the trail, you’ll come across another small split, stay to the left to continue on the loop. You’ll also pass two small effigy mounds on the grounds on the trail. After the mounds again, stay left to stay on the loop. You’ll end up back where you started in the loop, then head right to get back to main trail to parking lot, or explore the trails leading to the nature center.

The Trail that leads over to Aldo Leopold Nature Center runs along the other side of one of the ponds. If you’re looking to explore more or get more distance in, it’s worth checking out!

Trail is not stroller friendly and carriers are recommended for little walkers if needed, and babies. Conservancy also offers monthly guided birding tours.

I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio and have lived in several states over the past few years including Indiana, Ohio, Florida and now Wisconsin! We’ve lived here since May 2017 and have absolutely fallen in love with the area and LOVE to explore all the outdoor areas around us. Hike it Baby quickly became part of our lives and has built an amazing community for our family. Looking forward to continue helping families explore and love the outdoors one hike at a time!
