About This Trail

[Total: 3    Average: 2/5]

The Ellis Cove Trail is in the City of Olympia’s Priest Point Park. It is a great option for families who are looking for trails that are kid-friendly but have a little bit of elevation and breathtaking scenery. There are a few steep sections but they have stairs to make it easier for kids. The trail winds through a beautiful forest, full of native plants and fungi, and offers a good chance to see wildlife. Animals spotted here include, deer, herons, owls, otters, salmon, martens, squirrels, and more. As the trail winds through the forest, you will curve around Ellis Cove and then have the opportunity to access a pretty, rocky beach on Budd Inlet. It is a perfect spot for looking at rocks and shells, climbing on driftwood, and tidepool exploration. Keep and eye out for Great Blue Herons and other shore birds as you play on the beach. This beach also gives a panoramic view of the Olympia skyline across the bay from here, you can either retrace your steps or continue on the trail as it offers several branches that can offer a larger loop. Be sure to check out the posted map at the trail head to choose which of the many options will be the right length for your children.
