About This Trail

[Total: 0    Average: 0/5]
The Fontenelle Forest Riverview Boardwalk is a figure 8 boardwalk through an oak forest along the Missouri River. The ADA certified boardwalk makes the forest accessible to strollers and wheelchairs. A short way from the nature center is Acorn Acres, a natural play area where kids can build a fort, play in a treehouse, dig in the dirt or climb on logs. As you walk farther down the boardwalk, you will be surrounded by the oak forest restoration project. They are working to preserve the oak forest ecosystem through prescribed burns and invasive species control. Many birds, deer, and other creatures make their home in the forest. At the high point of the boardwalk, you can see the Missouri River and downtown Omaha.
Fontenelle Forest is a federally designated 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity and a National Natural Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The nature center has bathrooms, artwork, naturalist displays, a gift shop, and a children’s play area. It is also home to the Raptor Woodland Refuge, an area where rescued raptors can live out their life and provide education about raptor recovery and rescue.

Hike it Baby Trail Guide is managed by the Family Trail Guide team. If a trail has been “abandoned” by the initial owner, it gets adopted by the team. Also, if there are no trails in the area, the Family Trail Guide team researches trails that are family friendly in the area to insure that hikes cover all areas where Hike it Baby hikes.
