Fort Nature Refuge - Blue Loop
About This Trail
Fort Nature Refuge is a 235-acre wildlife refuge that is maintained by the Audubon Society. There are blue, white, yellow and red trails for a grand total of 3.3 miles of trails.
The blue trail is a 1.5 mile well marked trail with wildlife sightings. This is a perfect location for birders, nature scavenger hunts, and children who like to explore on boulders. For an additional .2 miles you can take a small path down to the pond and search for tadpoles, frogs, turtles and beavers. The blue trail is perfect for all ages and abilities with mostly flat, wide and easy to navigate terrain. For early walkers you may also take the white trail from the blue for a shorter hike, and still be able to reach the pond. There is not much change in elevation which makes this less strenuous compared to other trails in this area.
Due to the delicate ecology dogs, bikes and jogging are not permitted on this trial.

Hello! I’m one of the Branch Ambassadors for Rhode Island. My son Maximus was born in November 2017, and we joined HiB that Spring but our branch went dormant. The following year we joined HiB again and quickly found it to be extremely valuable to our lives. We mostly hike with our dog (Knuckles) in tow so it was nice for us to get out with families who enjoy the outdoors just like us! I’m excited to keep learning and growing our branch. We hope to meet you soon!
