About This Trail

Extremely accessible, Lake Rolands Boardwalk and Paved loop can be reached by I-83/I-695 or the Light Rail. Follow the boardwalk as it parallels the Light Rail (little legs can try and outrun or out scooter!) and get lost along the Jones Falls. This wood plank boardwalk can be slick, so make sure to keep a kid within eyesight or remind them to only go to the next bench (there are several). The invasives are aplenty along this trail – if you see purple/blue berries, that’s wineberry-prolific and bird-tasty, this rampant vine is overtaking much of Maryland. Have a bike, or waiting for the group to catch up? There’s a bike fix station on the right at the end of the  boardwalk worth the stop (and play). Depending on the weather you can choose to head up to the playground (complete with “climbing vines” a play train, logs, mining store, ticket booth, mud kitchen and swings…and picnic tables for snacks), walk the paved loop by passing the dog park and read the Baltimore County Public Library book pathway [which changes fairly regularly], OR, stop by the new nature center with amazing CLEAN bathrooms, reptiles and animals, a craft station and a train play table. Either way you’re bound to run the littles, get some fresh air and have a wonderful day!

Hey! I started as a BA in 2016 because I was looking for ways to not only connect with other outdoor fanatics but to also find a way to encourage new parents and caretakers the courage and support to find ways to get outside. There is no greater joy than watching a child come alive outside! I am happy to help you find the best- for you- Trails, Parks and Epic Play areas in and around Maryland….and add some fun facts in the mix.
