About This Trail

[Total: 1    Average: 5/5]

The Old Mission Dam at Mission Trails Regional Park is great for little ones to walk. The trail is flat and wide, so it is great for strollers or wheelchairs. The dam is very close to the parking lot, and if you want to walk a little further there is a neat bridge and rock playing area for the kids to explore.

The trailhead is at the end of the small parking lot. There you will find two porta potties and a trail sign with map. Continue down the small hill to a little picnic table area. There are a few signs that give you some history of the area and the dam as you walk. A little further along the path is the dam on your right. Depending on the water levels, it can be the perfect place for the kids to play along the dam. Once you are ready, continue walking along the path. You will come to a bridge that lets you out on to sand. There will be rocks to your right that are the perfect jungle gym for the kids to play on! Once you are ready, you can head back the way you came. If you are wanting a little more, you can continue on the path and explore the local trails a little more, but make sure you bring a map because there are a lot of forking trails. The trails get steeper and rockier from there. Be aware, if you look online some maps show a trail that looks like it loops back to the parking lot near the dam. This trail is in fact the dam, which is impossible to walk across, so please don’t be fooled!
