About This Trail

[Total: 2    Average: 4/5]

On a hilltop overlooking Madison’s west side, this park was the farm and personal retreat of former University Professor Edward Tu. Owen.  Today, prairies and oak savannas have risen like a phoenix to reclaim the landscape.  Coneflowers, goldenrod, and bluestem are among the many plants that yield a harvest of ever-changing color and texture throughout the year.

This is a fun place to visit and explore their trail system with children. There are 3 miles worth of connecting trails along the property that go in and out of wooded and prairie areas. There is also a hidden playground within the wooded sections towards the bottom of the hill. There are several bird houses along the trails with information about the birds in the area and benches along parts of the trail as well. Conservancy is also great to see wild turkeys from time to time. There are no specific trails in the consernavcy so you can choose your own adventure. There are gentle inclines along the hills of the property but nothing too strenuous. This is a great space to explore in, recommend bringing a carrier for babies and little walks that might tire. the conservancy also offers guided bird outings monthly.

Hello, I’m Abby, one of the Branch Ambassadors for the Madison, WI Hike it Baby branch. I’m a mom to 3 kiddos ranging from baby to school aged. I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio and have lived in several states over the past few years including Indiana, Ohio, Florida and now Wisconsin! We’ve lived here since May 2017 and have absolutely fallen in love with the area and LOVE to explore all the outdoor areas around us. Hike it Baby quickly became part of our lives and has built an amazing community for our family. Looking forward to continue helping families explore and love the outdoors one hike at a time! Can’t wait to see you out on a hike!
