Stoney Run Trail and Linkwood Playground
About This Trail
Linkwood Park & Playground is typically the jumping off point for an urban trail hike on the Stoney Run path. The playground often is nicely shaded due to the proximity of a large tree, and it is well appointed with trash cans, a little free library, and an adjacent open field for playing.
From Linkwood Park, you can head north a mile on the Stoney Run Path to the northern terminus of the trail at Gilman School, or you can head south a mile on the Stoney Run Path to the northern entrance of Wyman Park, where the trail will continue south for over a mile.
The Stoney Run path runs along both the east and west side of the Stoney Run, with some spots where the trail crosses the shallow water over stone footpaths. You will pass through the Baltimore City neighborhoods of Evergreen, Roland Park, and Guilford on your walk throughout the path, often seeing cyclists, dog walkers, and wildlife – including many birds.
The Stoney Run trail is nicely shaded and quiet, though there are a few road crossings with crosswalks which you will need to closely monitor your children to be able to cross.
The Stoney Run trail is one of the best urban trails in Baltimore City, and it is easy to customize the distance you want to go by creating your own loop or out and back path. I highly recommend exploring it!

Hi! I’m originally from Long Island, NY, but I’m now proud to call Baltimore, MD my home. I love to hike, climb, swim, bike, and share my love of the outdoors with others. I have one wild toddler with another sibling on the way.
