From the park website:

“This trail has three distinctive branches. The most southerly portion runs from the campground to the Visitors Center, The middle section runs north from the visitors center, and the most northerly part of the trail is a loop that traverses through some wooded hills . The latter is joined with the Homestead Trail for part of the way”.

For our purposes with Hike it Baby, we like to take the northern portion which forms a shorter loop perfect for families with toddlers. After we often like to link up with the paved Lakeside trail for a short path to the outdoor classroom which is a natural play area that the kids love.

The portion of the trail running from the Visitors Center is still easy enough for youngsters but the parking area at this address is more centrally located for taking multiple trails and not getting too far from your vehicle. You will not have access to the Visitor Center from this area but it is a short drive away should you need the facilities.
