About This Trail

[Total: 1    Average: 5/5]

Pioneer Park is situated at the southern-most part of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area and it’s a fantastic place to play; chocked full of sandstone cliffs, rocks to climb, little canyons, and caverns to explore. The Crack (it’s called St George Narrows on Google Maps) is a slot canyon that’s approximately 40 yards long and not fun for those who suffer from claustrophobia. It’s pretty narrow, and my kids and the teenagers we were with scooted through it just fine. I think my son went through five or six times.

Close to The Crack, there are two little arches you can explore; one is called Pioneer Park Arch. They aren’t far from the parking lot and most kids from preschool ages and up will be able to get there. From there you have a panoramic view of St George and the surrounding areas.

Pioneer Park is truly a playground built by Mother Nature and is fun for all ages to explore. We visited with kids ages 6 through 17 and we ALL had a great time. If you go in the summer, be sure to bring PLENTY of water and sun protection. The sun bakes the rocks to some mighty toasty temperatures.

There are no restrooms at Pioneer Park.

Fee & Parking Details

Fee : $0.00

There are two main parking areas at Pioneer Park. You want the upper parking area for easy access to The Crack and the arches. The parking spaces are small, so be wary with larger vehicles. RVs or trucks with trailers won’t be able to drive into the upper parking lot. If the upper lot is full, you’ll have to park in the lower lot and walk a little further.
