About This Trail

[Total: 2    Average: 4/5]

This trail follows Tanner Creek to Wahclella Falls. Some drop off risks along the way, so please bring carriers or plan accordingly. The mild elevation gain, and short distance make this a great trail for all!

The trail begins on a wide gravel path that leads you past a small dam used by Bonneville Fish Hatchery. From there (approximately 0.3 miles), it narrows to a smaller dirt path that leads up a bridge to the 35-foot Munra Falls cascading down a rock ledge.  Beyond the bridge, you’ll continue through the woodland for approximately 0.5 miles before arriving at a section of wooden steps. This is the steepest climb of the hike. The trail will lead you through some mild switchbacks before taking you over another bridge. As you continue through the grotto, you’ll see giant boulders left behind from a landslide in 1973.

Proceed along the trail to your first view of Wahclella Falls. You’ll pass a small cave on the right just before crossing a final bridge to the falls. The falls are made up of two cascades totaling approximately 350-feet.

The trail was formerly a loop but part of it was closed after the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire.   Hiking the area within 48-hours of heavy rain and snow events is not recommended as these can trigger landslides, tree fall and flash floods. These risks are elevated for up to 10 years after a fire.

Being outside is how I re-charge. It gives me perspective, fills me with gratitude and provides an opportunity to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life. I am fortunate to share this passion with my amazing husband and our son.  I was born and raised in the PNW but I love exploring any area I can get to. One of my favorite things about Hike it Baby is that I have a built in community of friends to provide trail suggestions anywhere we go.
