About This Trail

Walking Iron County Park and Natural Resource Area is located just west of the Village of Mazomanie in the Town of Mazomanie. The 288-acre site offers miles of hiking and equestrian trails which wind through scenic restored prairies and wooded areas. During the winter, the park provides access to Dane County’s snowmobile trails.

The park offers several miles of trails and loops ranging from .5 miles up to 1.4 miles. Most of the loops connect or intersect at some point and having a map with you is recommended. All trails are also designated hiking and equine trials unless noted.

From the parking lot you’ll back to the trailhead kiosk and can choose a loop or more to do from there. A good one to do is start with the 0.5 mile loop and connect it with the 0.8 mile loop. This combo gives a good variety of scenery and mostly flat, with very little elevation. You can access the map here: https://www.danecountyparks.com/ParkDocument/GetFile/191/WalkingIron_Overview.pdf

Hello, I’m Abby, one of the Branch Ambassadors for the Madison, WI Hike it Baby branch. I’m a mom to 3 kiddos ranging from baby to school aged. I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio and have lived in several states over the past few years including Indiana, Ohio, Florida and now Wisconsin! We’ve lived here since May 2017 and have absolutely fallen in love with the area and LOVE to explore all the outdoor areas around us. Hike it Baby quickly became part of our lives and has built an amazing community for our family. Looking forward to continue helping families explore and love the outdoors one hike at a time! Can’t wait to see you out on a hike!
