Trailblazer - Alex Wong
I'm Alex. California Girl turned Utahn and I love living so close to the mountains and exploring them with my two school-aged boys. I'm a freelance graphic designer, Lifetime Girl Scout, foodie, traveler, and I love being a Hike it Baby Branch Ambassador for Salt Lake City. I'm reconnecting with hiking and camping after over a decade of being bogged down by a full-time job with a long commute and I am loving sharing that love with my kids and with fellow HiB moms. I love trails with beautiful scenery and ones that have a specific destination like a waterfall. Trails that make for beautiful photos are my favorites.
Favorite TrailMy favorite trail changes every year, but right now it's Fifth Water Hot Springs in Diamond Fork Canyon, Utah. It's a beautiful 5 mile roundtrip hike through a lush forest with occasional spots with red rock, a rushing creek, and beautiful hot springs to play in. There's a waterfall and soaking pools in varying temperatures and shades of turquoise. It's just long enough to get a decent workout, but not so long that it takes little ones forever to get there.
Trailblazer - Joey Johnson
Joey JohnsonBranch Ambassador, National Volunteer, Trail Blazer
Joey here and I am originally from Utah but have lived all over, including New Zealand! Over the last eight years I have hiked all over Northern and Southern Utah thanks to Hike it Baby! I had never really hiked before having my son although I've always loved the outdoors and camping. My mission in life is to give my son the best adventures while teaching him to care for our beautiful planet and hopefully that rubs off on our friends and family. With this next year I hope to convince tons of women to get on trail with me because if I can hike, anyone can! I'm truly an unlikely hiker being a plus size, older mama with a 7 year old in Utah. I love traveling with my family but my husband works weekends so I often take my son camping on my own. I love hosting campouts for families, we all help each other, making camping a lot less work and worry and a TON more fun! I like any hike as long as we have friends to share it with. My Favorite Trail is Cecret Lake because the trail is easy enough for toddlers and so beautiful with the millions of wild flowers and then after a few rough switch backs you are rewarded with the most pristine, water shed lake. You want to dive right in, but it's pristine for a reason.
